چکیده

Recent studies revealed that some social and technological network formations can be represented by the network formation games played by selfish multiple agents. In general, the topologies formed by selfish multiple agents are worse than or equal to those formed by the centralized designer in the sense of social total welfare. Several works such as the price of anarchy are known as a measure for evaluating the inefficiency of solutions obtained by selfish multiple agents compared to the social optimal solution. In this paper, we introduce the expected price of anarchy which is proposed as a valid measure for evaluating the inefficiency of the dynamic network formation game whose solution space is divided into basins with multimodal sizes. Moreover, through some computer simulations we show that it can represent the average case behavior of inefficiency of dynamic network formation games which is missed by two previous measures.

The Calculation and Simulation of the Price of Anarchy for Network Formation Games

We model the formation of networks as the result of a game where by players act selfishly to get the portfolio of links they desire most. The integration of player strategies into the network formation model is appropriate for organizational networks because in these smaller networks, dynamics are not random, but the result of intentional actions carried through by players maximizing their own ...

Considering chain to chain competition in forward and reverse logistics of a dynamic and integrated supply chain network design problem

In this paper, a bi-objective model is presented for dynamic and integrated network design of a new entrant competitive closed-loop supply chain. To consider dynamism and integration in the network design problem, multiple long-term periods are regarded during planning horizon, so that each long-term period includes several short-term periods. Furthermore, a chain to chain competition between t...

The Price of Anarchy for Network Formation in an Adversary Model

We study network formation with n players and link cost α > 0. After the network is built, an adversary randomly deletes one link according to a certain probability distribution. Cost for player v incorporates the expected number of players to which v will become disconnected. We focus on unilateral link formation and Nash equilibrium. We show existence of Nash equilibria and a price of stabili...

Designing virus-resistant, high-performance networks: a game-formation approach

Designing an optimal network topology while balancing multiple, possibly conflicting objectives like cost, performance, and resiliency to viruses is a challenging endeavor, let alone in the case of decentralized network formation. We therefore propose a game-formation technique where each player aims to minimize its cost in installing links, the probability of being infected by a virus and the ...

Emergence of Small World Networks Network formation through link selection by selfish nodes Master of Science Thesis

A game theoretic approach is taken to the Small World Phenomenon. A standard model for the algorithmic approach is generalised in a game theoretic framework, and the corresponding normal form game is defined and analysed. The thesis shows that when nodes in the network select long range contacts based on incentives that promote participation in short message chains the game admits a potential f...
